Downgrad iOS 4.3.1 to 4.3, 4.2.1, 4.1 on iOS devices [Full Guide]

Today, Apple launched their new iOS 4.3.1 for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4G / 3G. If you were one of those unlucky ones who actually upgraded to the new iOS 4.3.1 and now want to downgrade your IOS firmware, please follow the guide below.

The below guide will help you downgrade your iOS device to iOS 4.2.1, 4.1 or 4.3. This guide is compatible with the following iOS devices:
  1. iPhone 4
  2. iPhone 3GS
  3. iPod Touch 4G / 3G and
  4. iPad 2 / iPad
Instructions:
The very first step is to download the required old firmware file to which you will be downgrading to. If you are downgrading to…:
  • iOS 4.2.1
  • iOS 4.3
Once you have downloaded the respective firmware to which you will be downgrading to, please put your iOS device into DFU Mode. To do so, follow the below simple given instructions in their correct and precise order:
  • Connect your IOS device to the computer
  • Turn your phone off by holding the Power button – and then sliding the slider to turn it off
  • Open iTunes
  • Hold the “Power” button and “Home” button for a time of 10 seconds
  • Release the “Power” button but keep a hold of the “Home” button for another 10 seconds or until the computer recognizes the new USB device
  • Your iPhone screen should be blank – BLACK in color!
Navigate to the below given directory on your computer and find the “hosts” file. We need to edit this file in order to hide the fact that Apple server will be watching Saurik’s server instead of Apple’s server.

  • · C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
Once the hosts file is located, open the file using “Notepad”. If needed, open the file as an Administrator by right-clicking on it and clicking on the option that reads “Run as Administrator”
Add the following line to the very bottom of the document, as you can see in the screenshot below:

  •  74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Save the file and proceed to the next step
Open up iTunes, and click on your device that will be visible in the left-hand menu of iTunes. Click on it and it will open up your versions history, etc.

You need to click on the “Restore” button while holding the “Shift” button (on Windows) or “Alt” button (on Mac). This will prompt you with a small new window where you will be able to choose the location of the firmware file yourself. Select the firmware file of the firmware you are downgrading to, and click “OK”

You might come across the 1013 error during the restore. If you do, just ignore it as it happens but does not disturb anything. So don’t freak out!
To exit from Recovery Mode, download the following below given program. Run it and click the “Exit Recovery” button inside it
