SHAtter Also Patched in iPad 2, Userland Jailbreak on its Way?
Saturday, March 12, 2011
It's now confirmed that Apple has killed hacker's last hope, after iH8sn0w confirmed the expiration of limera1n exploit in iPad 2, now MuscleNerd of iPhone dev-team confirming that Apple also has patched SHAtter exploit in iPad 2.
You have to know that Geohot found his bootrom exploit in October 2010, then it has been patched by Apple after 5 months (March 2011), so you can conclude that these kind of exploits have a long lifetime, but also they are harder to find. So, now MuscleNerd expect that the upcoming iPad 2 jailbreak will be a userland-based jailbreak like Comex's JailbreakMe. Any way let's wait and see !
Early testing also seems to show at least one thing SHAtter depends on was gone by March 2010 too
This means any early iPad2 jailbreaks will have to be purely userlandMore clarification? All current jailbreak tools, specifically which used to jailbreak firmwares starting from iOS 4.0.2 is based on Geohot's bootrom exploit (hardware exploit). Apple has patched them on the newly iPad 2 by upgrading its hardware.
