iPad 3 : New Backlight Design For Retina Display [REPORT]

As stated by DigiTimes, Apple will be modifying its backlight solution for the iPad 3 as the single LED bar isn’t sufficient for the iPad’s retina display. The report says that Apple is considering two alternative backlight solutions for the iPad 3′s Retina Display.

First solution is incorporating a single-bar form factor with two LED chips and the other solution uses dual-LED light bars, one on the left and the other on the right side of the display.

From DigiTimes:

LED back-light unit (BLU) vendors have reportedly offered two alternative backlight solutions for Apple to choose from for its next-generation iPad, according to sources at Taiwan-based BLU makers.

With the next-generation iPads expected to adopt LCD panels with resolutions higher than 2048 by 1536, the current single LED light bar designed for the iPad 2 has to be modify in order to maintain or strengthen the brightness of the panels, the sources explained.

Apple will most likely take on the dual LED backlight solution for iPad 3 since the vendors have solved heat dissipation and battery consumption issues.
